Law Fundamentals
This course establishes the foundation upon which the remainder of the curriculum rests. It examines what law is, the sources from which law is drawn, the manner in which the major legal systems of the world differ, the conceptual building blocks with which lawyers reason, the making and enforcement of law, and the operation of law above and between states. The history of law is contained within a single closing module, so that it deepens understanding without taking command of the course.
Commercial Law Fundamentals
Commerce proceeds upon a compact set of legal ideas that recur in every market: agreement, exchange, action through another, the pooling of capital, payment and the security of payment, the movement of goods across frontiers, and the resolution of disputes. This course teaches those ideas at the level of their universal form, and it names the specific instruments through which they operate in practice, among them the CISG, the Incoterms, the documentary credit, and the principal rules of arbitration. The treatment is accessible to any serious reader and is precise enough to be of use.
Building a Business with Legal Matter
Most people encounter the law of business only after a difficulty has arisen. This course reverses that order. It treats every venture, from a single person who sells something to a company that raises capital, as a structure of legal relationships, and it sets that structure before the reader in advance of the moment of need. The purpose is to awaken the reader to the legal dimension of what is being built, without overwhelming the reader in the process. The course serves the sole operator and the prospective founder alike, and the material on growth at scale is offered as optional depth and is never made a precondition.
